OFD to PDF
for anyone outside China

OFD is China's national document standard — used for tax e-invoices and official paperwork. Nothing on a normal Windows PC opens it. Drop the files in and get PDFs your accounting team can actually read.

Why OFD ends up on your desk

Chinese tax e-invoices and official certificates are issued in OFD, not PDF.

What people try first all dead ends

  • Double-clicking it. Windows has no idea what an .ofd file is
  • Chinese-only OFD readers — installers in Chinese, some require a phone number to activate
  • Online OFD converters want you to upload supplier invoices to a server — invoices carry bank details and tax IDs
  • Free tiers limit you to a couple of files, which is useless at month-end

FormatMagician local conversion

  • Nothing uploaded. Invoices are decoded on your own machine
  • Select the whole folder from the supplier and convert it in one pass
  • Output is a standard PDF — any reader, any OS, any archive system
  • The same tool also handles 263 other input formats

Three steps

No Chinese interface, no account, no internet.

1

Install on Windows

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. The OFD reader is bundled with the app.

2

Drop the .ofd files in

Pick the document scene, then drag in files or the folder your supplier emailed you.

3

Convert to PDF

PDFs are written beside the originals with the same base filename, ready for accounting.

What OFD actually is

OFD — Open Fixed-layout Document — is a Chinese national standard (GB/T 33190-2016). It is the format Chinese tax authorities use for electronic invoices and official certificates, and it is deliberately a fixed-layout format like PDF, so the layout cannot reflow. The practical problem is adoption: outside China almost no software reads it, which means a legitimate invoice can look like a broken file to your finance team.

Converting to PDF solves it once. The PDF goes into your accounting system, your auditor gets a readable file, and nobody needs to install a Chinese reader.

One caveat worth knowing: an OFD invoice often carries a digital signature that makes it verifiable in China's tax system. Converting to PDF produces a readable copy, but it is not the verifiable original. If you need to file or reimburse with the signature intact, keep the .ofd file as well as the PDF.

Common questions

How do I open an OFD file on Windows?
Windows cannot open it natively. Convert it to PDF with this app, then open the PDF in any reader.
Can I convert a whole month of invoices at once?
Yes. Drag the folder in. There is no per-day or per-file limit and filenames carry over.
Is the digital signature preserved?
No. The PDF is a readable copy, not the verifiable original. Keep the original .ofd file if you need to submit or reimburse with the signature intact.
Are my invoices uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs on a local engine; you can disconnect the network and it still works. See the privacy policy.
Is it free?
The app is free to download from Microsoft Store. OFD conversion belongs to the full version; details are shown inside the app.
