DWG to PDF
without an AutoCAD licence
Someone sends you a .dwg and you just need to look at it, mark it up, or forward it as a PDF. Drop it in — DXF works the same way. Drawings are rendered on your own machine, so confidential plans never leave it.
The usual options are all awkward
A DWG viewer, an online converter, or buying a seat of CAD — each costs you something.
Online DWG converters the problem
- Your drawings are uploaded. Client plans, tender documents, unbuilt designs — all of it
- Free tiers cap you at a couple of files a day, which is useless for a drawing set
- Output often comes back as image-only PDFs with no selectable text
- Many require an account before they will even process the file
FormatMagician local render
- Nothing leaves your PC. Useful when the drawings are under NDA
- Drop the whole folder — a 40-sheet set converts in one batch
- DWG and DXF both work, along with 262 other input formats
- One purchase of the full version covers every format the tool handles, not just CAD
Three steps
No AutoCAD, no plugin, no internet.
Install on Windows
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. The CAD reader is bundled — you do not need any other software.
Drop the drawings in
Select the CAD scene, then drag in .dwg or .dxf files, or the folder you were sent.
Convert to PDF
PDFs are written next to the originals with the same base filename.
An honest note on accuracy
This tool is built for viewing, sharing, and archiving drawings. It reads the geometry and writes a PDF you can open, print, and email. It is not a replacement for a full CAD application when you need production-accurate plotting — lineweight tables, plot styles, paper-space layouts, and custom fonts can differ from what your CAD software would produce.
If a PDF is going to a client for approval, or to a fabricator as a manufacturing document, plot it from CAD. If you need to read a drawing on a laptop that has no CAD installed, or forward a whole set to someone who will never install one, this is the fastest route.
